A primary preceptor is the resident’s clinical coach, competency coach, and career advisor throughout their two-year Family Medicine residency. Their practice serves as a resident’s home base, and their mentorship is foundational to each learners’ development. The infographic and resource “quick links” below are offered to support faculty in their educational roles and core responsibilities, ensuring an effective and meaningful experience for both preceptor and learner!   • Clinical Supervision & Teaching: Guide residents through real-world patient care using direct observation, case discussions, and chart reviews.
  • Feedback & Assessment: Provide regular formative feedback (documented in field notes), and summative feedback (complete ITARs, and portfolio reviews).
  • Mentorship & Monitoring: Support residents’ academic progress and career development, in a learner centered fashion- adjusting supervision as they grow in competence.
