Creating and submitting an Info-Morsel

What is an info-morsel?

Monthly asynchronous faculty development offering summarizing one interesting/ relevant faculty development topic. Could be academic paper, podcast, recorded session, highlight a PFD module. Info-Morsels will be released monthly through DFM newsletter, primary preceptor Listserv, and faculty portal, and will be highlighted on our Info-Morsel website, with easy access to archives of previous offerings. Check it out! https://info-morsel.fammedmcmaster.ca/71-2/

Why an info-morsel?

To stimulate interest in and thought around faculty development topics in a quick and digestible format.

What is the commitment?

In an effort to encourage variety, the info-morsel will be created by a different contributor each month. Faculty development site co-ordinators form the backbone of the info-morsel contributors. Any and all interested faculty are welcome (encouraged!) to participate.

Creating an Info-morsel

The example info-morsel took about 2 hrs, including deciding on topic, searching for an interesting resource, reading, listening, summarizing, creating “one-pager” including the citation, links, summary and take-away tidbit. When choosing a topic, consider time of year, if any theme is in play within the DFM or within society at large. Please feel free to focus on any aspect of faculty development of interest to you or in which you have experience or expertise.

Also, consider if an info-graphic, table or graph would enhance the info-morsel. We are often (though not always) able to get copyright permission to highlight these within the info-morsel and on the website. We have found that an interesting visual can make the presentation of the information more enticing.

Submitting Info-Morsel

Submit the “one-pager” plus any graphic you wish to include to:

cdonald@mcmaster.ca and froese1@mcmaster.ca

Please submit by the 1st day of the month you are contributing.

Editing the Info-Morsel

The submitted info-morsels are proof-read for typos and edited (informally- usually involves an email or two back and forth) to ensure that the info-morsel is as effective a promotion of the ideas presented as possible.
