Transition to Residency in the Context of Covid-Disrupted Learning.

Summary:

This session explores Covid-disrupted learning and the implications for transitioning to residency. Strategies for enhancing the clinical learning environment are presented, including a tool to address “Covid-created” learning gaps in the incoming residents. Themes of professional identity formation, the hidden curriculum, anxiety, and learners’ sense of inadequacy are explored.

Take-Away Tidbit:
The “Transition to Residency Self-Assessment Survey” can be sent to your incoming residents to be completed independently then discussed at a follow up meeting.  The survey questions, reflections and subsequent discussion will form the basis for you – together with your resident- to develop an individual learning plan, and to set yourself up early as both ally and coach in this unique transition year.
